A Non-Invasive Approach to Jaw Tension and Clenching

Jaw tension, clenching and overactive jaw muscles can affect comfort, chewing and everyday movement. EMFACE Jaw Relief is a non-invasive, hands-free treatment designed to target the muscles involved in jaw tension and clenching without needles or medication.

At Aesthetic Nurse Irina on the Gold Coast, every EMFACE TMJ treatment begins with an individual consultation. Your symptoms, medical history and suitability are assessed before a personalised treatment plan is recommended.

What Is EMFACE Jaw Relief?

EMFACE Jaw Relief is a functional application of EMFACE technology for people experiencing muscular jaw tension, clenching, facial fatigue or discomfort associated with overactive jaw muscles.

The temporomandibular joint is commonly called the TMJ. The term TMD refers more broadly to disorders involving the jaw joint, the muscles that control jaw movement or both. Because jaw symptoms can have different causes, an assessment is important before treatment.

EMFACE is intended to support the muscular component of jaw tension. It does not diagnose or correct dental problems, joint injury, arthritis or structural disorders of the jaw.

How Does EMFACE TMJ Treatment Work?

EMFACE Jaw Relief combines two synchronised technologies to target the jaw muscles and surrounding tissue.

HIFES Muscle Stimulation

HIFES delivers controlled, rhythmic muscle contractions. BTL describes the jaw application in terms of muscle re-education. This proposed mechanism is not a guarantee that clenching will stop or that pain will improve.

Synchronised Radiofrequency

Radiofrequency warms the treated tissue and increases local circulation. How this translates to symptom relief depends on the individual; the mechanism alone does not establish effectiveness for TMD.

The treatment is performed without needles, injections or anaesthetic.

Expectations and Evidence

EMFACE combines local muscle stimulation and controlled tissue heating. It may be discussed as an additional option for selected muscle-related symptoms, not as a cure for TMD or bruxism. Manufacturer claims are not the same as independent clinical evidence. Results vary and relief, improved movement or lasting benefit cannot be guaranteed. Conservative dental or medical care remains important.

Who May Be Suitable for EMFACE Jaw Relief?

EMFACE TMJ treatment may be considered for adults who experience:

  • Persistent jaw muscle tension or tightness
  • Jaw clenching or grinding-related muscle fatigue
  • Overactivity or spasm of the jaw muscles
  • Discomfort associated with muscular tension
  • A preference for a non-invasive, needle-free treatment

EMFACE is not a substitute for dental or medical assessment. Jaw pain, locking, a change in your bite, swelling, recent trauma or persistent unexplained symptoms should be assessed by an appropriate dentist or medical practitioner.

Suitability must be confirmed before treatment. Please disclose pregnancy, implanted electronic devices, metal implants in or near the treatment area and all relevant medical or dental conditions during consultation. This is not a complete list of contraindications.

What to Expect During Treatment

Consultation

Your consultation includes a discussion of your symptoms, clenching habits, medical and dental history and treatment goals. The jaw muscles are assessed and any reasons why treatment may not be suitable are reviewed.

Treatment

EMFACE applicators are positioned over the targeted jaw muscles. During the approximately 20-minute session, you will feel warmth together with rhythmic muscle contractions. Treatment intensity is adjusted gradually and should remain tolerable throughout the session.

Treatment Plan

A course of four sessions is commonly recommended, although the number and timing of treatments may vary. Your plan will be based on assessment, symptom pattern and response to treatment.

After Treatment

There is usually no required downtime, and most people can return to their normal activities immediately. Individual aftercare advice will be provided when required.

Possible Risks and Side Effects

EMFACE is non-invasive, but temporary effects can occur. These may include:

  • Warmth or mild redness in the treated area
  • Temporary muscle fatigue, tenderness or soreness
  • A strong muscle-contraction sensation during treatment
  • Temporary sensitivity in the treated area

Pain or excessive heat is not expected and should be reported immediately so treatment can be adjusted or stopped. As with radiofrequency-based treatment, there is a risk of a burn if excessive heat develops. Your suitability, expected benefits and relevant risks will be discussed before proceeding.

How Much Does EMFACE TMJ Treatment Cost?

The cost depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions recommended. As jaw symptoms and treatment requirements vary, pricing is provided following an individual consultation and assessment.

You will receive a clear treatment plan and quote before deciding whether to proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TMJ the same as TMD?

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint itself. TMD is the broader term for disorders affecting the jaw joint, the jaw muscles or both. Many people use “TMJ” when searching for jaw pain or jaw tension treatment.

Can EMFACE help jaw clenching?

EMFACE uses local muscle stimulation and controlled warming. Whether it is appropriate depends on the cause of the symptoms and device-specific screening. It cannot be promised to stop clenching or grinding.

Does EMFACE replace a dental splint or mouthguard?

No. EMFACE does not protect the teeth from grinding and should not replace dental advice or a prescribed splint. It may form part of a broader management plan when muscular tension is contributing to symptoms.

Can EMFACE treat headaches caused by clenching?

Jaw clenching and TMD can occur alongside headaches, but headaches have many possible causes. EMFACE should not be presented as a general headache treatment. Persistent, severe or new headaches require appropriate medical assessment.

How long does an EMFACE TMJ session take?

A treatment session takes approximately 20 minutes.

Is EMFACE TMJ treatment painful?

You will feel warmth and strong, rhythmic contractions of the jaw muscles. The intensity is increased gradually and adjusted to your comfort. Pain or excessive heat should be reported immediately.

How many sessions will I need?

A course of four treatments is commonly recommended. Your individual plan may differ depending on assessment and response.

Is there downtime?

There is usually no downtime. Temporary warmth, redness or mild muscle soreness can occur.

Is EMFACE suitable for everyone?

No. A consultation is required to assess medical history, dental history, implanted devices and other contraindications before treatment.

How much does EMFACE TMJ treatment cost?

Pricing is provided after consultation because the treatment area and recommended number of sessions must be assessed individually.
